Robert "Bob" Ellis, 90, of Stuart passed away Sunday, September 16th at the Stuart Community Care Center. Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m. Thursday, September 20th at Johnson Family Funeral Home in Stuart. Memorial Service will be held Friday, September 21st at 10 a.m. at Johnson Family Funeral Home in Stuart. Memorial contributions may be made to the Robert Ellis Memorial Fund, in care of Johnson Family Funeral Home, Box 246, Stuart, IA 5050. Memorials will be used for Iowa Hospice and the Stuart Rescue Unit. Online condolences may be left at www.johnsonfamilyfuneralhome.com.

Bob was born May 31, 1922 the son to Charles (Cliff) C. and Beulah V. (Graves) Ellis in Stuart, Iowa. He graduated from Stuart High School class of 1941. Following high school he enrolled in the engineering program at Iowa State University and joined the ROTC program. In 1942 he entered the United States Air Force and entered into flight training school. Bob served our country during World War II flying C-47 planes in the European Theater. He attained the rank of Captain before his honorable discharge in December, 1947. After returning home from service he was united in marriage to Maxine Glasscock on March 14, 1947 in San Antonio, Texas. This marriage gave them two children Steve and Donna.

Bob was very active within the Stuart community. He was trustee at the First Congregational Church of Stuart, on the board of directors of the Security State Bank, an active member of the Stuart Masonic Lodge, a founding member of the 5x80 Country Club and a member of the Shrine Organization. Bob enjoyed his family, farming, woodworking, cross-stitching, golfing and wintering in Arizona.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sister Marjorie and brother-in-law Jim Draman.

Left behind to cherish his memories is his wife of 65 years Maxine of Stuart; children Donna Cooke of Clear Lake and Steve (Becky) of Stuart; eight grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; four step great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.
