OBITUARY

At 11:30 o'clock Friday evening
the John Hunter home was shocked
by the terrible and tragic news that
their son, Lysle had been seriously
shot and was lying at the Sanitarian
Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa.
There was only one hope and that
was to undergo an operation. Word
was sent at once to do anything in
thp world that might save his life.
Duke and Bonnie Hunter, a brother
and sister left immediately and
reached his bedside about 3:30 a.
m. He recognized them and several
times during the day talked to
his sister. For thirty hours three
of Des Moines most skilled surgeons
battled for his life but to no
avail and about 4 o'clock Sunday a.
m. passed into eternity.

Carlisle Gordon Hunter was born
March 30, 1889 at Exira, where he
spent his boyhood days receiving
his early education, attending the
High School, later pursuing studies
in the Des Moines College and a
Chicago University. When 16
years old he joined the Congrega-
tional church of Exira. The Bible
he looked upon as the sweet source
of light and hope. His view of life
in later years was in extreme sym-
pathy for the unfortunate, his loy-
alty to friend, self-sacrifice and love
to family. Lysle's congenial dis-
position and fine personality in-
sured for him a large circle of
friends. He is the first of the fam-
ily to go. He will be missed and
his happy smile is but a cherished
memory. He was just at the prime
of life where future held so much
in store for him, all to be snatched
away by this unexpected cowardly
assassin's bullet. But now his earthly
trials are over, he has passed into
eternity, a place more beautiful
than any earthly home.

Lysle, reared in a home of refinement
and culture, is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. John Hunter who reside
at their country home, six miles
south of Guthrie Center. He leaves
to mourn his death a heart-broken
father and mother, four brothers,
John and Lee of Anselmo, Neb;
Randall of Tulsa, Okla; Duke of
Guthrie Center; five sisters, Grace,
Bonnie, Jean, Mae and Marie.

Funeral services were held Thursday
at the home conducted by Rev.
D. B. S. Prather. Interment at
Guthrie Center (Union Twp. Cemetery). Our sympathy is
extended the bereaved family.

Note: Parents of Carlisle Gordon "Lysle" Hunter were John Hunter and Ida Sarah Burton.
