Edward Forrest Benton (1871-1919)

Mr. Edward Benton, one of the
Benton Brothers, who has lived
among us for many years, died at
his home, east of Exira, Monday.
He had been an invalid for over a
year. Funeral services will be held
this afternoon at Bowman Chapel,
this afternoon at 2 o'clock, conduc-
ted by Rev. Dove. Interment at
Bowman cemetery. We will print
a complete obituary next week.

Edward F. Benton was born in
Mouisvill Jo. Davis Co., Illinois
April 27, 1871 and passed away
January 27, 1919 at his home east
Exira. He was united in marriage
February 22, 1899 to Miss Sarah A.
Hocamp. To this union twelve
children were born, four of whom
have preceded the father to the
great beyond. He is survived by
his wife, eight children, six brothers
and two sisters, all of whom attended
the funeral except James
Benton of Judith Gap, Montana
and one sister of Kansas, who could
not be present.

A few years ago he gave his heart
to God and joined the M. E. church
at Bowman Chapel. In his last
hours he told his loved ones he was
ready to go.

Funeral services were held at
Bowman Chapel, conducted by Andrew
Dove, Thursday, January 30th
Interment was made in Pleasant
Hill cemetery.


We wish to thank our neighbors
and friends, who so kindly assisted
us during the sickness, death and
burial of our beloved husband and
father, and who called to cheer him
during his long illness. May God's
richest blessings rest upon you.

Parents of Edward Forrest Benton were Isaiah Henry Benton and Tranquilla Rathbun. Edward was married to Sarah A. "Sadie" Hocamp.
