Russell Mommer, 96

Russell Ernest Mommer, 96, of Sheridan, passed away on Aug. 23, 20212, at Tobacco Root Mountain Care Center.

He was born on Feb. 26, 1916, in Cedar Falls, Iowa, to Harry and Ada (Frost) Mommer. Russell was married to Lois Irene Ericksen on April 20, 1940, and shortly after was enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was proud of his service to our country and was a first lieutenant at his discharge on Dec. 25, 1945, from the U.S. Army Signal Corp.

Russell was a farmer in Dike, Iowa, the majority of his life, and he and his wife raised a son, John, and two daughters, Billielee and Jill. They were faithful members of the Fredsville Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls. Russell was also an active member of the American Legion Post 471; China-Burma-India Veterans Association 25458; 40/8 No. 171 and the Danish Brotherhood No. 144.

His first wife died in August of 1977. Russell was married to Hope M. Cushman in Omaha, Neb., on May 29, 1980, and the two retired to Montana.

Russell was preceded in death by his first wife; four sisters and two brothers.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Hope Mommer of Sheridan; son, John (Mary) Mommer of Dike, Iowa; daughters, Billielee Mommer of Wimberly, Texas, and Jill (Reardon) Fisher of Cedar Falls; step-children, Bill (Gerry) Cushman of Missoula, and Tana (Bob) Gornick of Bigfork; brother, Charles Mommer of Lyonn, N.Y.; 15 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

Russell's cremated remains will be interred with military honors in the Fredsville Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery in Cedar Falls.
