Old Settler Answers the Summons of Death

Another one of the old-timers has gone to his final rest; the duties of life, the burdens, were carried with a light heart by Sede Van der Hyden, and he gave up with an apparent willingness and consciousness of a life well spent.

For a third of a century he had called this home, coming here direct from the land of his nativity, Ostfriesland, and he had employed his time to a good purpose, accumulating a competency and maintaining the respect of the people with whom he came in touch. He died last Wednesday morning, having rounded out fully the three score years and ten. A christian; his indeavors directed in its practice, he was one of the leaders and strong supporters of the Evangelical church of which Rev. Dekker is pastor.

Six children revere the father's memory and the companion of a life-time mourn his demise. The funeral which was held Saturday was presided over by Rev. Dekker. The cause of his death was due to a lung and stomach trouble.
