Susie Bode, 93, of Austinville, passed away on Thursday, January 9th at the Maple Manor Village in Aplington, under the care of Care Initiatives Hospice. Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 19, 2020 at the Sietsema Funeral Home in Ackley with a private family burial to follow. Visitation will be an hour before services.

Susie M. Bode was born December 12, 1926 on a farm southeast of Wellsburg. She was the daughter of Harm H. and Margaret (Cullen) Rust.

She received her education in the Wellsburg public school and graduated from high school in 1944 and from Evangelical Deaconess Hospital, Marshalltown with a nursing degree in 1947. She worked 3 years as an office nurse for Dr. Kienzle in Wellsburg.

On September 19, 1951 Susie was united in marriage to Harold Voss Bode at the Wellsburg Reformed Church parsonage. They were lifelong members of the Austinville Christian Reformed Church. She had served as a Sunday school teacher and on other church societies. They lived in Austinville all their married life.

Susie worked 16 years as a nurse in the Presbyterian Home in Ackley.

She is survived by 2 sons, Richard (Ann) of Omaha, NE, and Alan of Minneapolis, MN, and Dean Born, special friend; two grandchildren, Julia and Alyssa of Omaha, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by husband, Harold (Budd) Bode, her parents, her brother, John Rust and her sister, Virginia Ubben.
