Mrs. Franzenburg, Mother of 8, Dies

Funeral services for Mrs. Paul Franzenburg were held Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Methodist church in charge of Rev. R. A. Hallett, local minister.

Following an illness of many months, Mrs. Franzenburg passed away at her home in Conrad during the afternoon of Wednesday, April 19, 1939, at the age of 54 years, 9 months and 14 days.

Bertha Alice Beck was born to Dr. and Mrs. J. W. Beck on July 5, 1884 at Kellogg, Ia. She received her public school education in the Des Moines schools system, and was a music student at Highland Park college in Des Moines.

After the sudden accidental death of her first husband she came with her three children, Hubert Watkins, now of Omaha, Neb., James Watkins, now of Kingley, Ia., and Maxine, now Mrs. M. G. Paisley of Minneapolis, Minn., in 1914 to make her home in Conrad with her parents. During 1915 she was united with Paul Franzenberg of Conrad, and to this union were born 5 children, Paul Jr., Jean, now Mrs. Max Belz of Faulkner, Wilhelmine, Ruth, and Collyn.

After living in northern and northwestern Iowa from 1918 until 1934 she moved back with her family to Conrad where she had made her home until the time of her death.

She joined the Methodist church at the age of 12, and was an active member for the remainder of her years. She was also active in the Ladies Aid society, and in the Order of the Eastern Star, having been an active member of the Tuesday Musical club at one time.

Mrs. Franzenburg is survived by her husband, eight children, her mother, Mrs. Alice Beck of Des Moines, a sister, Mrs. Earle Merrill of Des Moines and by Uncle Willie Franzenburg, who for many years has been one of her own family in their home.

The pallbearers at the funeral were Earle Newton, John Binder, William Lounsberry, Alva Cooper, Elmer Thorman, Lloyd Wehrman. Flower bearers were Mrs. Mark Trumbull, Mrs. Ray Belz, Mrs. Mary Axtell, Mrs. R. T. Spain, Mrs. Goldie Thorman.

Music was furnished by Mesdames Gould, Fredrick and Newton, accompanied by Miss Isabelle Stevens.

Burial was in the Conrad cemetery.
