Obituary

Rosa B. Allen was born in Stuben county, New York, Feb. 12, 1863, and died at her home in Grundy Center, Iowa, Jan. 7, 1898, aged 34 years, 10 months and 26 days.

Deceased was converted in early life and united with the M.E. church when 16 years old, and has been a devoted and faithful christian ever since. For several years she was a teacher in the public schools of New York, and came to Iowa in the spring of '92 where she married Alex Campbell May 19. Two children, a girl and a boy, blessed this union, the latter living only six months.

For two years Mrs. Campbell has been failing in health, and kind and loving care and medical skill could not overcome the ravages of the fatal disease, consumption, and on Friday morning her spirit took its flight while she slept.

Funeral services were held at the M.E. church Sunday afternoon, Rev. McKim preaching from John 17:7. The sermon was full of hope and assurance to those left behind who put their trust in the blessed promises of the Master. Rev. Jordan assisted by adding a word of comfort in prayer, and the choir sang words of consolation, especially in the impressive song, "Come unto me, when shadows darkly gather." After the remains had been viewed by sympathizing friends, the last of this loving wife and kind mother was laid to rest in the cemetery west of town. The bereaved husband and daughter have the sympathy of the community in their sad loss.
