Dr. DeKorne Dies In California

Word was received here last week announcing the death of Dr. J. C. DeKorne, former pastor of 2nd Christian Reformed church at Wellsburg. Death came on Sunday, Dec. 2nd, at the home of his sister in California. Death was the result of a heart ailment with which he had been afflicted a number of years. He was 63 years old.

Dr. DeKorne during his early active life was a missionary in China. He gave up that work in 1934 and accepted his first charge as a church pastor when he took over the ministry of the 2nd Chr. Reformed church here. He was very successful as a minister. Members of his congregation at Wellsburg valued his services very highly and they received the news of his decease with deep regret.

After leaving here he was appointed a director of foreign missions and continued in that work up to the time of his death. He was on such a mission in the west when he came down with his final illness.

Dr. DeKorne was the author of several books and was a regular contributor to The Banner, a church periodical. Among the books he wrote are: "Chinese Authors to the Unknown," "To Whom I Now Send Thee" and "Navaho and Zuni for Christ."

He also helped to organize the Reformed Bible Institute at Grand Rapids and was a director and vice president of the institute until a few months ago. He was treasurer of the Evangelical Foreign Missions Association of Washington, D.C.

Dr. DeKorne's body was sent to the home at Grand Rapids, Mich., for funeral services and burial.

Immediate members of his family who survive are the wife and two sons.
