Celebrate Golden Wedding
Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Berends Married Fifty Years Thursday.
Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Berends living south of town were married fifty years ago last Thursday and they celebrated the event with a golden wedding at their home. A large number of their friends and neighbors spent the afternoon and evening with them and assisted in making the occasion an enjoyable one.
Mr. and Mrs. Berends were both born at Brunde, Germany, and they were married there. They are in their seventy-fifth year and they are both still strong and in the best of health. They came to this country twelve years ago and have resided in this vicinity all of that time. Two years after they came to this country both Mr. and Mrs. Berends on returning from the county seat were struck on a crossing by a Rock Island train near Holland and they had a narrow escape with their lives.
Mr. and Mrs. Berends are the parents of four children, all of whom are living. The sons are Elso, Louert and Henry and the daughter is Mrs. John Neihuise living near Grundy.
