I would like to find out about a tornado which touched down in southern Greene County, in the late 1950s or early 1960s. I think it would be between 1958 and 1963. My family lived 1 mile south of Ralston, IA and 1/4 mile west from the Carroll/Greene County Line road. I remember this tornado coming from the northwest over our farm, blowing down an apple tree. A farm southeast of ours had a barn blown away leaving the loft and hay on the ground floor of the barn site. My family got into the car afterwards and traveled south of Scranton, to the east, southeast and I remember that we came upon a farm yard close to a small town. The tornado had blown the house away, you could see the basement walls and floor. In the basement was a table with six large glass jars on it, the tornado left them behind. The farmer who lived there held on to a water pipe when his house was blown away. The farmer had some elevators, with flights in them for putting corn into his crib there close to where his house stood, they were all twisted. We went in to see the damage in the town, it looked like a war zone. Could some one help me out with a date for this storm and tornado? I can't remember the name of the little town or the date which it happened. I would like to include the information in my family history. I remember being about 5 or 6 at the time this happened.
Any help will be appreciated, thank you.
