SERVICES MRS. CATHERINE C. MAHER
Imogene Resident Passed Away After Paralytic Stroke

Funeral services were held in St. Patrick’s church Nov. 10 for Mrs. Catherine C. Maher, 89, with Rev. F.W. Doyle officiating with a requiem high mass. Servers were Edward Laughlin, Donald Doyle and Dick Maher. St. Patrick’s choir sang. Pall bearers were eight grandsons, James Patrick, Joseph and Michael Martin, Patrick Francis, Donald Maher and Joe McDermott. Burial was in Mt. Calvary cemetery. There were beautiful flower offerings and an abundance of mass cards.

Mrs. Catherine C. Maher was born in Jackson County, Iowa, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Laughlin, April 7, 1858, and died Nov. 7 at her home, after an illness of six days following a paralytic stroke Nov. 2. She was married to Patrick Maher Feb. 23, 1878, in Dubuque, coming to a farm near Imogene as a bride. She lived here until 1910 when they moved into Imogene where she has since resided.

To this union eight children were born, five of whom preceded her in death, also her husband who died March 27, 1913. Surviving children are Jerry F. Maher, Mrs. Michael Martin, Sr., and Miss Anna Maher, all of Imogene. She is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Mary Lynch of Creston and Mrs. Maggie Sweeney of Zwingle, 13 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.

Though Mrs. Maher had reached the age of 89 years she was very active and enjoyed good health until her stroke. She attended mass nearly every Sunday in St. Patrick’s church of which she was a devout member. She enjoyed having her friends and relatives visit her. She was a good neighbor and will be greatly missed.

Among those from out of town who attended the service were: Mrs. Roy Collins, Pat Laughlin and Myrtle Sweeney of Zwingle; A.R. McDermott and son Joe, Newton; Mr. and Mrs. Ed McKeown, Missouri Valley; Thomas J. Kline and Marcella Lucas, Council Bluffs; Mrs. Mao Clark, Kent, Minn.; Mrs. Joe Hamer, Mrs. Charlotte Mason and daughter, Mrs. Louis Litak, Mrs. E.J. Sweeney, Mrs. Louise Walsh, Miss Loretta Maher, Miss Helen Horton and Vincent Saner, Omaha; Mrs. Charles Looney, Neola; Dr. and Mrs. William Korr, Randolph; Mr. and Mrs. Ed V. Martin and son Vincent, Coin; and Mrs. Mary Reimers, Creston.
