Funeral services for Jim Jenkins, 76, of Sidney, long time operator of Sidney Grain and Ag Service, were held October 27 at the Crawford-Marshall Funeral Chapel in Sidney. Rev. Jayson Gutzmer officiated. Mr. Jenkins died October 19, 2014, at his home.

Doris Nenneman was in charge of the memory book and Angie Ettleman, June McClure and Anna Belle Jennings were in charge of flowers. Musical selections were "Beyond the Sunset" and "In the Garden." Pall bearers were Dalton Haler, Austin haler, Dylan Remm, Roy Remm, Jim Bolton, and Bob Nenneman. Honorary pallbearers were Charlie Schaaf, Gene Pearsall, Larry Hume, Tom Hummel, Tom VanScyoc, Bill Penn, Bob Crawford, Roger Eitzmann, Larry Greedy, Tom Jennings and Dennis Kingery.

Interment was in the Sidney, IA Cemetery, memorials are directed to the Sidney Rescue Squad or the Sidney United Faith Church or Asera Care Hospice.

James K. Jenkins was born March 29, 1938, in Omaha, NE, to Chester Ralph and Hele (Henrie) Jenkins. He attended school in Sidney and graduated from Sidney High School in 1957. On June 1, 1958, he married Corlene (Cork) K. Ranck of Sidney and they had four children: Kristy, Kathy, Cindy and Michael.

Jim attended the Commercial Extension Business College in Omaha and graduated in 1958. Leroy Canfield offered Jim a full time position as Assistant Manager at Canfield's Army Store, and he worked at that position and another part time job for the next five years, so Cork could stay home and raise the girls.

The family lived in LaVista, NE, until they moved back to Sidney in 1963. The same year, he purchased the feed store on the corner where NAPA is currently located, from Bill Long and changed the name to Jenkins Feed and Produce. For the next fie years, Jim ground corn with an Arts Way Grinder and delivered the grain to area farmers. They also took in cream and eggs produced locally to be picked up by area distributors. The business was eventually moved to the cement building where Reilly Insurance is currently located.

In 1968 the Jenkins purchased their current home. Mr. Jenkins managed the elevator in Sidney several years before managing the elevator in Percival for several more, then came back to the elevator in Sidney. During that time, he also owned and operated a couple of grain tracks. he eventually went back to managing the Sidney elevator until he and his wife retired in December of 2000.

He dedicated his life to his family and to working with agriculture in Southwest Iowa and became well known to many farmers, with many of them becoming good friends through the year.

Preceding Jim in death were his parents, Chester Jenkins and Helen Jenkins Orton; his father- and mother-in-law, Bob Ranck.

Surviving him are his wife Cork, daughters Kris LaRock and husband Ron of Shenandoah, Kathy Achenbach of Sidney, Cindy and Roy Remm of Ft. Calhoun, NE, and son Michael James Jenkins and wife Michelle of Gretna, NE; a sister, Delores White, and her husband Novie of Sidney and a brother, Bob Jenkins, and his wife Mary of Oceanside, CA; nine grandchildren: Hayley, Amy, Jacey, Emily, Austin, Dalton, Dylan, Heather and Jack; seven great grandchildren: Isabelle, Isaiah, Madalynn, Makayla, Logan, Cayden and Ella,; and Many other relatives.
