William H, SMITH was born at Aberton, Washington county, Virginia, March 17, 1850 and died, May 24, 1929 at the Nebraska hospital, aged seventy-nine years, two months and seven days. He came to this county with his parents in December, 1856 when the country was very thinly settled. He knew of the hardships of a new country.
He was married to Caroline Akines in February 1882.To this union five children were born, Albert, dying in infancy, Verna, who grew to womanhood in this community and who died some eight years ago, Mormon Smith of Kansas, Kimber Smith, of Hamburg, George Smith of Nebraska City. Mrs. Smith died in September, 1922.He also had one sister, Mrs. C. McNew, and one brother, John Smith, both of Riverton, a half sister, Mrs. drum, of Shenandoah, and fifteen grandchildren.
He was a good father and a kind husband and tried to do right by all he knew.
Funeral services were held Sunday, May 26 at Mount Zion and interment was made in the cemetery at that place.
