Franklin County
It’s Past & Present

REEVE TOWNSHIP

Reeve Township was one of the three original Townships created by the county judge, March 3d, 1856, and comprised the six southeastern congressional townships of the county. At present it contains 85 sections, being the most of townships 91, range 20 and 21, the north half of township 90, 20 and the east half of township 90, 21. As already stated Judge Reeve and John Mayne were the first settlers in this township, it receiving its name from Judge Reeve. In fact, in and around Mayne’s Grove, in Reeve Township, were made the first settlements in Franklin County, so that a history would be but a repetition of the account given of the early history of the county.

Among some if the earliest settlers now residing in the township may be mentioned Benjamin Butterfield, Levi Jones, J. M. Soper and Alexander Creighton. Some of the largest farmers are J. F. Robbins, J. M. Soper, Andrew Hamilton, I. W. Meyer, Ash Wright, Mr. Parks and C. B. Green.
