Baby Killed in a Runaway.
Charles City Intelligencer:—A fatal accident happened Sunday to the infant child of Mrs. Mary Meggett, daughter of Adam Stoecker, of the 4th ward. In company with her sisters, Anna and Emma, she was riding near Mr. Meggett’s place south-west of town. The horse was frightened by a passing team and ran away. In turning into the gateway at the Meggett place, the buggy was overturned and its occupants thrown out. Emma’s shoulder was bruised and cut, Anna’s back and arm were injured, and Mrs. Meggett was badly cut and bruised about the head. The baby, which was about seven months old, was caught in the lines, and dragged several rods, and its head badly lacerated and its body bruised. The runaway happened about 5 o'clock in the afternoon and the little one died at 3 o'clock the next morning.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows this was Alfred Henry who was born Oct. 21, 1895 and died May 7, 1896. They also show the spelling Maggett but the gravestone of the parents shows Maggitt. He is buried in Riverside Cemetery.
