Maxine Powell Chastain

April 16, 1924 - January 23, 2019

Maxine Chastain, 94, of Charles City, passed away Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

A funeral service for Maxine Chastain will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 26, 2019 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Charles City with Pastor Jim Beranek officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Charles City.

A gathering of family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

Maxine Alta (Noah) Powell Chastain, the daughter of Arno Lyle Noah and Mary Alta Ponto, was born on April 16, 1924 in Charles City. She graduated from Charles City High School. Maxine married James Powell and to this union three children were born. The couple later divorced. Maxine later married Narmass Chastain.

Maxine was a lifelong bookkeeper. She worked for Lindemere Dairy, Townsend Electric and numerous other locations until her retirement age of 89 years old. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and belonged to the Faith Grace Circle. She was an avid reader, enjoyed bird watching, gardening, and loved Sudoku and other puzzles.

Living family members include her children: Mary Lee (John) Buchanan, Robert (Sandra) Powell, and Pam (Don) Votroubek; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; sister, Marion Bumgardner; brothers, Wendell and Vernon Noah; along with many nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; stepmother, Opal Noah; brother, Wayne Noah; and husbands.
