Doris Fenholt

October 7, 1929 - November 9, 2018

On Friday, November 9, 2018, Doris Fenholt passed away peacefully at her 205 Blunt Street residence, where she has lived for the past 25 years. She was with her family and others who have been providing loving care during the past several weeks.

Doris was born in Charles City and graduated from Charles City High School in 1947. She attended Iowa State Teachers and Westmar College, receiving a B.A. degree in elementary education. She later earned a Master’s degree from the University of Minnesota. She taught for five years at LeMars, Iowa and twenty four years at the Orono School District in Minnesota.

In 1993 she moved back to Charles City with her husband. They soon became foster parents and, for seventeen years, were “parents” to thirty eight children, many of whom still remain in contact. During the past five years they have enjoyed having college interns from local industries live with them. Helping young people move forward in their lives brought Doris great joy.

Doris married Bill Fenholt, also a Charles City High School graduate. They were high school “sweethearts” and graduated in the same class. They are parents of a loving daughter, Karen Vander Lee, who also lives in Charles City.

There will be a private service/interment at a later date in accordance with her wish. Doris would appreciate your kind thoughts and memories. The family is very grateful for all those who have supported them during this difficult time.
