Alice DeBower Funte, 97, of Charles City, Iowa, died Monday, May 28, 2018, at 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Homes.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, June 1, 2018 with a one hour prior visitation at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 200 S Main St, Charles City. Pastor Russ Leeper will be officiating. Interment will follow at Sunnyside Memory Gardens.

Alice was born on December 30, 1920 in Charles City to Roy and Helen (Miller) Marson. She lived in Charles City all her life and received her education in the Charles City schools.

On April 27, 1940, she married Carl DeBower at the Lutheran Church parsonage. To their union a daughter and son were born. Carl died on November 3, 1979. Alice later married Elmer Funte on September 10, 1982; he predeceased her on February 20, 1990. Later she had a special friend, James Scoles; he also passed away.

While Carl was serving in the army during World War II, Alice worked at the Oliver Plant making army cots for the troops. She also worked as a Stanley demonstrator and unit supervisor and then worked several years at the north end Guthart Grocery Store.

Alice was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was also a member of the Women of the Moose. She loved to dance, go fishing, playing cards, bowling and learned to golf in her later years. As a teenager she enjoyed roller skating. Alice was a very loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother who loved spending time with her family.

She is survived by her daughter, Sharon (Shari) Schmitt of Charles City and son, LeRoy (Gloria) DeBower of Marshalltown, Iowa; five grandchildren: Karla Goddard of Charles City, Sondra Schmitt of Waterloo, Paula (Shawn) Vroman of Waterloo, Tom (Jennifer) DeBower of Chicago, Illinois, and Josh (Becky) DeBower of Norwalk, Iowa, and six great-grandsons: Carl and Brian Goddard, Lucas and Jacob DeBower and Andrew and Samuel DeBower; sister, Evelyn Noble of Mason City and sister-in-law, Charlene Marson of Waterloo.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Carl DeBower and second husband, Elmer Funte; parents, Roy and Helen Marson; son-in-law, Jerome Schmitt; brothers, Lyle Marson and Don Marson; sisters-in-law, Betty Marson, Annie Frericks and Helen Cmelik and brothers-in-law, Hank Frericks and Bob Cmelik.
