Memorials may be directed in care of Karson's family to be donated in his name.

Karson Clarence William Ott was born on April 10, 2006 – a birthday he was honored to share with his grandmother, Phyllis Hughes. He was born in Mason City to Larry and Kristin (Hanson) Ott. Karson was the oldest son of the family, growing up in Nora Springs with his four siblings, Natasha, Jaxson, Eian, and Izabella.

He was baptized at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Nora Springs. Karson attended Central Springs Middle School and was currently in the 6th grade. He was a member of the Middle School band as a percussionist.

Karson loved the outdoors. Since the moment his dad taught him to fish, he wanted to be on the water. Karson's grandma and grandpa were very special to him, he was always looking forward to what goodies grandpa had brought for their next fishing trip. He found enjoyment in biking, swimming, camping, playing in the fire, rollerblading and riding the rip stick – a skill he picked up in no time. When the opportunity presented itself, Karson loved to ride four wheelers and go karts – the faster the better. His family remembers him most for his huge heart.

Karson was constantly helping others, and would do anything in his power to make someone's day brighter. He had an intuitive mind and could fix just about anything that was broken.

As Karson cared and gave in life, he did so too in his passing. Karson was an Organ Donor through the Iowa Donor Network.

Karson's family would like to sincerely thank the officials that rushed to their aide in the time of need: the Nora Springs Police Department, Nora Springs Fire Department, Mason City Ambulance Crew, Floyd County Sheriff, as well as Chuck who was the first to the scene. Your rapid response and care at the most difficult time was appreciated.

Left to cherish Karson's memory are his parents, Larry Jr. and Kristin (Hanson) Ott of Nora Springs; his siblings, Natasha, Jaxson, Eian, and Izabella Ott; maternal grandparents, Marjorie and Donald Hanson of Nora Springs; paternal grandma, Phyllis Hughes of Clear Lake; aunts and uncles, Andrea (Todd) Campbell of Mason City, Michael (Heather) Hanson of Stewartville, MN, Dave (Robin) Hughes of Mason City, Doug (Krista) Vanhooser of Manly, and Shane (Rachel) Ott of Utah; great-grandparents Clarence & Violet Brinkman, of Greene; friends that have become family, Troy and Robyn Hillman, Lisa and Keith Carey, Melissa and Travis Scholbrock, Tim and Michelle Detrick, Michelle and Jeff Dixson, Tom Deward and Sarah Ostrander and their family, and Josh and Angie Rembe; as well as numerous extended family members, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandpa, Larry Ott Sr., great-maternal grandparents Ruth “Grandma Owiee” and Bill Hanson, great-paternal grandparents Lee Hughes and Oscar and Tecla Ott.
