Service: A funeral Mass will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 27, 2018 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City

Visitation will be at Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, April 26, 2018 with a Scripture Service beginning at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the funeral Mass at the church on Saturday

John was born in Charles City, Iowa, on October 26 1949, the son of Garfield and Wilma Mooberry Gohr. He graduated from Charles City High School in 1967. He served the Country in Vietnam as a Navy SeaBee, and met his wife of 46 years shortly after his honorable discharge.

He was employed as a Journeyman and Master plumber and a fire fighter. He served on the Charles City Fire Department for many years, with his last years as Fire Chief. Following his retirement from the fire department, he worked in the maintenance department at the Chautauqua Guest Homes.

He was very involved in the VFW, serving as commander at times, and Quarter Master for several years. He also served on the Charles City Plumbing Board, the Selective Service Board, the Immaculate Conception Church Cemetary Board, and he was a volunteer driver for veterans. He enjoyed his yearly SeaBee reunions with his service buddies, road trips with friends, morning coffee with the guys, and spending time with his family, especially the 3 little granddaughters.

He is survived by his wife, Christine Larson Gohr; son and family, Charles, Danielle, Reese, Everly and Charlie Gohr of Woodward Iowa; daughter and family, Crecia, Jason, Payten and Carter Johnston of Charles City; and brother Doug Gohr (Diane) of Las Vegas; along with a large extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and mother in law, Betty Larson.

He was involved in clinical trials for medication for Pulmonary Fibrosis at the Mayo Clinic throughout his illness, and has donated his body for further research.
