MASON CITY, IOWA - Mildred M. White, 96, of Mason City, died Sunday, March 11, 2018, at the Nora Springs Care Center.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, March 16, 2018, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N Pennsylvania Ave. There will be a gathering of family and friends one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will take place in Elmwood Cemetery. Memorials can be made out to the Mildred White memorial fund. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.majorericksonfuneralhome.com .

The family wishes to thank the staff at the Nora Springs Care Center and Hospice of North Iowa for the care that they provided Mildred.

Obituary for Mildred Marie White

August 19, 1921 - March 11, 2018

Mildred M. White, 96, of Mason City, Iowa, died Sunday, March 11, 2018, at the Nora Springs Care Center.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, March 16, 2018, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N Pennsylvania Ave; with Rev. Kathleen Moore, First United Methodist Church officiating.

There will be a gathering of family and friends one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will take place in Elmwood Cemetery.

The family wishes to thank the staff at the Nora Springs Care Center and Hospice of North Iowa for the care that they provided Mildred.

Mildred Marie White was born to parents George and Grace (Lehman) Simkins on August 19, 1921. Mildred grew up in Mason City and attended Mason City High School graduating in 1940; in 1948 Mildred was united in marriage to Wayne White in Mason City.

For work Mildred spent some time as a real “Rosie the Riveter” helping build P-51 Mustangs in an airplane factory in Los Angeles during World War II; afterwards she spent several years working for Stoyles Printing. Mildred was also a house wife. In her free time, she enjoyed volunteering her time at the North Iowa Medical Center and with the Mercy Auxiliary. Mildred also loved tending to her flower beds and going to the Mason City Senior Center.

Mildred is survived by her children: Patty Doyle, Gary (Marilyn) White, Kathy (Steve) Rosendahl, Larry (Dana) White; brother, George (Pearl) Simkins Jr; sister in-law, Margret Simkins; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Mildred was preceded in death by her husband Wayne; parents; and siblings, Dorothy and Claude.
