Sylvan Charles Kock, 92, of Rockford, Iowa, passed away Thursday, December 1, 2017 at Valley View in Greene, Iowa, with his family by his side.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at Zion Lutheran Church in Rockford, with Pastor Robert Scheurer officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church.

Sylvan Charles Kock, the son of Charles and Ada (Smith) Kock was born December 8, 1924 on a farm by Bristow, Iowa. He was baptized June 21, 1925 and confirmed May 28, 1938. He attended Rural School Coldwater #9 in Butler Country. Sylvan married Thelma Irene Kielsmeier on June 22, 1947 at the Flood Creek Methodist Church.

Sylvan farmed for 25 years and helped many young men get into the trucking business. He was a petroleum driver for Charles City and later started a petroleum business at the Rockford Co-Op in 1981. Sylvan was a driver for Winnebago and Hoover's Hatchery. He drove for 8 years and over 1 million miles.

Sylvan was on the Board of Director at Rockford Co-Op, President of Rockford Cemetery along with being a caretaker for many years, and was an usher at Zion Lutheran Church. He enjoyed country music and spending time with his grandchildren. Any job Sylvan undertook he did to perfection.

Living family members include his loving wife of 70 years Thelma Kock; three daughters: Carma Hillman of Marble Rock, Brenda Dight of Rudd, Sherrine Bundt of Menomonie, Wisconsin; son-in-law Rob Younie of Jefferson; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a special God-Child Renne Knoop of Johnston.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Karen Younie; son-in-laws: Danny Hillman and Dick Dight; grandson Kyle Dight; and sisters: Irene Rodenbeck, Phyllis Brandau, and Ilo Kock in infancy.
