Philander("Filando") Wood was born in Troy, Rensselaer, NY in 1833-34 according to findagrave
A search on "Wood's" revealed a Mary A Wood in Lansingburg, Renselear, NY on the New York State Census of 1855(Ancestry.com). Her age is 41 and id therefore slightly inconsistent with the 1860 census age of 50. Her presumed spouse is Hiram Wood. I believe it is likely it is the same person, Philander is 17 in 1850. He may be found in Marquette, Wi.on the 1850 census(familysearch.org).

Details of Mary A Wood are more likely to be found with collateral research focusing on her children and/or NY probate records or perhaps CW pension records related to Hiram Wood. She apparently was living in Fayette county from at least 1860 to her death in 1868. An obit is unlikely that early

New York genealogy is more difficult than Midwest states but many people have has success. Real brick walls exist when all research avenues have been exhausted.
