R. F. Thompson Dies Suddenly.
The death of R. F. Thompson came with a shock to the community last Thursday evening, when the death of one our best citizens was reported.
Up to the time of his death Mr. Thompson has sustained usually good health, but death took him without a parting word. He had made one trip to the mail box, which is about 100 yards from the house, and the mail having not yet arrived he returned to the house. Later he started back after the mail. Heart failure caused him to fall dead about 50 yards from the house. Mail carrier, Ferrington, of Ringwood, discovered him and called to the son, C. F., who was in the yard.
Russel F. Thompson, son of Russel F. Thompson, Sr., was born in Erie county, Pennsylvania, Aug. 19, 1841, being the second child of a family of four.
In 1843 his father and family moved to Walworth county, Wis., where the wife and mother died in 1850. Six years later they moved to Richland county, Wis., where the family remained until moving to Fayette county, Iowa, in1865. The father passed from this life in 1870.
In Sept. 1861, Mr. Thompson responded to the Country's call for troops and enlisted as a member of Company H, Eighth Wis. Infantry—the famous Eagle regiment. He served in Missouri where he was taken sick and after a prostration of several months received an honorable discharge on ac-{missing} of his disabilities.
On 14th March 1875, Mr. Thompson was united in marriage with Miss Luella Lapham, who died in Feb. 1876, leaving one child, Lucius, who only lived two years.
Mr. Thompson was joined in wedlock with Miss Mary E. Cumming on the 10th of October 1882. Unto this union four sons were born, Hance C., July 25, 1883, Clinton, July 25, 1885, Charles F., July 6, 1891, and Ernest G., July 14, 1894.
In Feb. 1910 Mr. Thompson and family moved to Alfalfa county, Okla., where he spent the remaining years of his life. He was suddenly called from this life on Dec. 24, 1914, at the age of 73 years, 4 months and 5 days.
Mr. Thompson leaves to mourn their loss, a wife, four sons and three grandchildren besides a large circle of friends The country at large has lost one who was faithful in times of war as well as peace and the community has not only lost a true neighbor but a true friend.-Helena Star, Okl{a}homa.
