KERMIT CRAFT a SUICICE VICTIM

Kermit Craft, 47, of 1554 Sixth avenue SE, died of a gunshot wound shortly after 8 a.m. Thursday in the basement of his home. Coroner Robert Brosh called the shooting a suicide.

Mr. Craft was the proprietor of a barber shop in the Union bus depot.

Detective Tom Condon said the bullet, fired from a 22 caliber pistol, entered the right side of Craft's head. He apparently was sitting in a chair when he fired the shot.

Mrs. Craft, who was in the house at the time of the shooting, told police her husband had been in poor health.

A Cedar Rapids resident for 25 years, he was born Nov. 1, 1903, at West Union. He married to Florence Torson June 30, 1922, at West Union.

Surviving besides his wife are a son, Gordon Dale Craft, at home, his father, Art Craft, of Hawkeye, a sister, Mrs. MillardKeith, Cedar Rapids, and three brothers, Roger Craft, Cear Rapids, and John and Myrel Craft, bot of Hawkeye.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian church, Mizpah lodge, A.F. and A.M., Iowa Consistory; El Kahir Shrine, Eagles and the Barbers Union.

Services will be conducted in the Turner chapel at a time to be announced later.
