Jens Christian Jensen, Jr., 90, died Friday, March 8, 2013, at Palmer Lutheran Health Center in West Union, Iowa.

He was born May 13, 1922, in the family farm home in Windsor Township. He was named after his father, so he was always known by the nickname, Bud. He was baptized August 12, 1924, and became a member of the Methodist Church in 1938.

Bud attended Windsor No. 1 country school through the 8th grade. He was a 4-H club member and enjoyed showing cattle at the Fayette County Fair. He was a charter member of the FFA chapter at West Union High School, where he graduated in 1939. He married Hazel Marie Neumann on May 4, 1944, at the Little Brown Church.

He farmed with his father on the family farm and was a farmer his entire working life. He also sold Funk's seed corn for a number of years. The father-son operation continued when Bud and Jay farmed together until the time he retired. Bud and Hazel moved from the farm to their home at 404 W. Plum Street in 1978, where they lived until moving to Traditions in February of this year.

One of Bud’s favorite projects was having his 1952 GMC truck restored after using it on the farm for about 25 years. He got special enjoyment out of driving it in parades and entering it in local car and truck shows where he won several trophies. His other favorites were fishing, shooting pool, playing cards, putting jigsaw puzzles together, doing word and number search puzzles, doing the Jumble in the daily paper, and meeting for morning coffee with his friends. He loved his pig collection, morel mushrooms in the spring, strawberries in the summer, and his morning oatmeal.

Bud is survived by his wife, Hazel, of West Union, IA; a daughter, Jane (Ken) Vande Berg, of Decorah, IA, a son, Jay (Carol) Jensen, of West Union, IA ; a sister, Mona (Loren) Whitver, West Union, IA; five grandchildren, Travis (Farha) Vande Berg, of Syracuse, NY, Jeff (Jennifer) Jensen, of Dike, IA, Christina (Chris) Monson, of Minneapolis, MN, Lori (Nick) Rissman, of Decorah, IA, Dayna (Ryan) Goodchild, of Johnston, IA; seven great-grandchildren, Alexis, Jayce, and Trey Jensen, Olivia and Carter Rissman, Grayson Goodchild, and Ella Monson. He loved his family very much! He will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Preceding him in death were his infant son; his parents, Jens Christian Jensen, Sr., and Alice Mona Cottier Jensen; and his brothers, Donald and Kenneth.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at 10:30 am at the United Methodist Church in West Union with the Rev. Scott Keele Kober officiating. Burial will follow in West Union Cemetery.

A public visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 from 4 pm until 8 pm at Burnham-Wood Funeral Home in West Union.
