SERVICES HELD FOR RETIRED POSTAL WORKER
Warren W. Iliff, 96, of West Union, died of age related causes early Saturday, March 15, 2008, at the West Union Good Samaritan Center.
A Celebration of Life was held Tuesday, March 18, at West Union United Methodist Church with the Rev. Scott Keele Kober officiating.
Interment was in the West Union Cemetery. Casket bearers were Ray Iliff, Mark Birdnow, Brett Whitcher, Ezra Iliff, Steve Golay and Ron Beerman.
Arrangements were handled by Burnham-Wood Funeral Home, West Union.
Warren Woolf Iliff, was born Dec. 4, 1911, in West Union, to Royal and Glenn (Woolf) Iliff.
He graduated from West Union High School and attended college for one year. He chauffeured for Bohumira Krill band.
On September 30, 1937, Warren married Dorothy Pauline Smith at her parents' home in Elkader. They lived the majority if their lives in West Union. Two sons were born to them.
During World War II Warren served his country in the U.S. Navy.
Upon his discharge from the military, he returned home, where he played his bugle at military funeral services and Memorial Day services in the 1940s. Warren worked for the Reliable Cleaners and later worked for the West Union Post Office for 30 years, retiring in 1972.
Preceding Warren in death were his parents; his wife, Dorothy in 2003; his brother, Eugene; and two sisters, Dorothy Blunt and Frances Iliff.
He is survived by two sons, Donald (Mary Anne) Iliff of West Union and Kenneth (Mary Frances) Iliff of Palm Desert, Calif.; two grandchildren, Raymond (Laurie) of Waterloo and Rebecca of Coralville; and five great-grandchildren.
