Mae Appelman, 1890
Died at Clermont, Iowa, October 22, 1890, Mae, daughter of Richard and Jane Appelman, aged 33 years.
Miss Appelman was a graduate of Mt. St. Joseph’s academy, Dubuque, Iowa. Here she learned the art of painting and became so expert that her productions secured first prize for her at the state fair and the Sioux City corn palace. She also excelled in music, needle-work and the other accomplishments taught at the academy, but she is remembered for her truly loveable character. The public school at Clermont was closed that the pupils might attend her funeral. Deceased was a cousin to Mrs. H.J. Grotewohl of this place, Mr. Grotewohl and family attended the funeral which was held at Clermont on Friday last.
