~ OBITUARY OF MATILDA BENSON ~

Tena Matilda Benson, oldest child of Mary Nelson Benson and Nickoli Benson, was born in Clermont, Iowa, on the home now occupied by Nels Gilbert on Dec. 22, 1883 and passed away at Palmer Memorial hospital at West Union, Nov. 7, 1963. She received her grade and high school education in Clermont and graduated with the class of 1904.

She was married to Claude Gress in June, 1904. To this union were born six sons and 3 daughters, Parker and Charles of Cedar Falls, Lyle of Bettendorf, Kenneth of Cedar Rapids, Harold of Riverside, Calif., Gaylord, who passed away in 1923 at the age of 13 years, Eunice (Mrs. Francis Shay) of Central City, Phyllis (Mrs. John Stankovic) of Marion, and Florence, who passed away in infancy.

Surviving to mourn her death are her husband, Claude, 5 sons and 2 daughters, 3 sisters, Mrs. Alma Demory of Marion, Mrs. Mayme Wise of Cedar Rapids and Clara Gress of Fayette, 13 grand children and 8 great grand children, 6 nieces and 5 nephews.

She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a member of the Mission Society, ladies service club and Priscilla Working band.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son and daughter and a brother.
