E. J. Nevile was arrested at Oelwein a few days ago on a charge of having stolen ten head of cattle from a farmer near Randalia. He took them to Oelwein and sold them to Heath & Humphrey, but before he could get away a message was received from the sheriff to arrest him. Marshal Pickard had just got his prisoner inside the jail and remarked, “I will have to search you,” when Nevile drew a revolver from his pocket, and before the officer could interfere he placed the muzzle over his heart and pulled the trigger, killing himself instantly.
