Vincent John Cook, Jr. 1948-2022

Vincent John Cook, Jr., was born on January 5, 1948, to Vincent John Cook, Sr. & Julaine (Breitenbach) Cook in Lake City, Iowa. He passed away on May 26, 2022, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

John grew up in the Mallard and Laurens, Iowa, area and graduated from Laurens High School in 1967. He was united in marriage to Evonne (Hansen) Oleson on September 17, 1977, in Estherville, Iowa. They celebrated 44 years together. John and Evonne farmed in the Gruver area for all those 44 years and enjoyed many winter vacations in Mexico together.

John was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Estherville. He enjoyed sports of golf and bowling, but mostly hunting and four-wheeling the hills of South Dakota with his adventurous comrades. John was a man who made friends easily and kept them for a lifetime. He was the first of eight siblings, who would see one another intermittently throughout the years. They were always close in mind and spirit when they did find time to gather.

John is survived by his wife Evonne, two daughters, Michelle (Oleson) Lindemann (Mike) of Humboldt, Iowa, Julaine Marie Rose of Granbury, Texas and two sons, Greg Oleson (Rhonda) of Armstrong, Iowa, and Jess Aaron Oleson (Angie) of Nashville, Tennessee, and daughter-in-law Julie Toon Cook of Ft. Worth, Texas. So very important and loving to him are his 11 grandchildren, Ashlee Jensen, Jayda Henson, and Weston Henson, Peyton Oleson and Parker Oleson, Emily Oleson, Audrey Oleson and Isabel Oleson, Katie Rose, Jonathan Cook and Talyn Bradbury Cook, and six great-grandchildren, Kasey, Jordyn, Isaiah, Gianna, Harlow and River.

John is preceded in death by his parents, brother George, son Robert Cook and twin infant granddaughters, Penelope, and Pricilla.

A funeral service was held Saturday, May 28, 2022 at the Trinity Lutheran church in Estherville, Iowa with Pastor Cole McCormick officiating. Interment was at East Side Cemetery, Estherville.
