Edward Nicholas Rienhardt, Jr., 83, passed away suddenly in El Paso, TX on February 7, 2021. He was born on August 27, 1937, to Edward N. and Elizabeth (Ling) Rienhardt in Dolliver, IA.
A celebration of Ed's life was held on Saturday, July 3, 2021 at the Dolliver Methodist Church with a luncheon following at the V.F.W. Post in Estherville, IA.
Ed enlisted in the U.S.A.F. and was stationed in Anchorage, AK. In 2015, he returned with a trip of a lifetime to Alaska with Cindy, Aileen, Kim and Judy Kretsinger. It was an emotional and magical time to relive his days in the service.
October 11, 1958, he married Aileen Marie (Paulson) and they had two children: Cindy Lee and Edward N. (Deann) Rienhardt, III; one granddaughter, Tarah Marie (Clayton) Dickerson and three great-grandsons, Lukas Edward, Jacoby Alexander and Drake Archer. Grandpa referred to them as the 'Dickerson boys' as his face lit up and he chuckled over the antics of the three boys.
Ed and Aileen helped raise hundreds of foster children over their years together. They had a gift of intuition, love of children and common sense that made successful 'parents'.
Ed was always up for a road trip. He loved to look for books at garage sales, like his mother, and he didn't miss a child, grandchild or a relative's sporting event.
May we always see the positive, like Ed did, in people. You asked him how he was and he'd say, "I'm terrific. I can't help it!".
Ed's survivors are his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as his significant other, Corinne Hollar; his sisters, Harriet and Elizabeth.
He is predeceased in death by his parents and siblings, Ruth, Katherine, Kenneth, Ivadel and Charlene.
