Robert C. Bergeson, 85, of Estherville, Iowa, died Wednesday, June 9, 2021, at Good Samaritan Society in Estherville.

Bob was born on December 18, 1935, in Estherville, to Herbert O. and Margaret Elizabeth (Misener) Bergeson.

He graduated from Estherville High School in 1953. Following graduation, he drove a bread truck. Bob then began working on the kill floor at John Morrell, before coming a hog buyer for them. He retired after 47 years.

On April 3, 1955, Bob married Helen June Sangl, at her parent’s home in Spirit Lake, Iowa. Bob and Helen took their young family camping in their pop-up and searched for gem stones along the lake shores and quarries in the Dakotas, Minnesota and Canada. They enjoyed going to rock shows and their annual trips to flea markets at Vic’s Corner in the Iowa Great Lakes area. Bob would cut and polish the gem stones to make rings, belt buckles, brooches and boa ties. Bob enjoyed hunting pheasants and rabbits along Cheever Lake, cornfields on his parents’ farm and the gravel roads.

Bob is survived by his; children, Della (Wayne) Lutterman of Sherburn, Minnesota, Alan (Ruth) Bergeson of Terril, Iowa, Dean (Beth) Bergeson of Milford, Iowa and Bill Bergeson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; siblings, Don Bergeson, Berryton, Kansas, Gary (Lee) Bergeson, Hinkley, Minnesota, Harland (LaDonna) Bergeson, Orleans, Iowa, Jan Clymer, Estherville, Iowa, and Larry (Roberta “Bertie”) Bergeson, Okoboji, Iowa.

Robert was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Helen June (Sangl) Bergeson on April 2, 2021; and his parents, Herbert and Margaret (Misener) Bergeson. He is also preceded in death by his sister Sue (Denny) Clifford, sister-in-law Karen Bergeson, and brother-in-law Leland Clymer.

A private family service will be held with interment at Estherville Lutheran Cemetery, Estherville, Iowa.
