Remembering with a grateful heart the life of former Swea City area resident Kathryn Langerman who passed away on Sunday, September 6, 2020, in Greensboro, NC, where she had been living the last several years.

Kathryn Jean Henriksen was born the youngest of five children and the only daughter of Marius and Andrea (Andersen) Henriksen on June 7, 1925, on the Henriksen family farm NE of Ringsted, IA. She graduated from Ringsted High School in 1944, and then attended beauty school in Des Moines, IA.

Kathryn became a successful beauty operator in Estherville until her marriage to Marcus Langerman of Swea City in 1946. The couple lived on a farm east of Swea City and raised three children: John, Wayne, and Jean. In their retirement, they bought a house in Fairmont, MN, and lived there until the death of Marcus in 2005.

A few years later Kathryn moved to Greensboro, NC, to be closer to her family. Kathryn possesses many talents and it seemed she could accomplish anything she set out to do: a church organist from her teen years, an excellent seamstress, a beautician, the best cook and maker of great caramel and cinnamon rolls and pies, a farm wife who worked side-by-side with her husband, animal chores, hauling grain at harvest, she did it all so very well. Kathryn and Marcus were active members of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Swea City where she was a faithful member of the women’s organizations.

Kathryn is survived by her sons John, of Greensboro,NC; Wayne(Kay), of Dahlonega,GA; and daughter Jean(Roger) of Washington State; three grandchildren, Becky, Eric, and Steven, and three great-grandchildren.

Kathryn was preceded in death by her husband Marcus; her daughter- in- law Dale Langerman; her parents Marius and Andrea Henriksen; brothers and wives, Clifford(Helen); Harvey(Lorene); LeRoy(Laura); Gerald(Lois); father and mother-in-law Fred and Amanda Langerman, and brother- and sister-in-law,Cecil( Vivian) Langerman. Kathryn has also had a host of friends wherever she has lived, and we as her family are so proud to have called her our very own, and we will never forget all that you have nurtured in and done for us.

May you shine on in Heaven now with our Lord and all who have gone on before.

A burial service was held April 23, 2021 at the Harrison Township Cemetery at Swea City, Iowa.
