Richard Thomas Meyer 1935-2020

Richard Thomas Meyer, son of Frank R. and Leonora A. (Hutchinson) Meyer, was born December 14, 1935 on the family farm near Lone Rock, Iowa. He passed from this life on Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at the VA Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota at the age of 84.

Richard received his education at Seneca Country School and graduated from St. John's Catholic School in Bancroft, Iowa. He then served his country in the United States Army.

Richard was united in marriage to Kathleen Popp on February 15, 1969 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm, Minnesota. Kathy passed away on May 9, 2014. Richard was a farmer all his life, most recently from the pickup since his health forced him into semi-retirement a few years ago. He enjoyed coffee with his friends, always to talk farming or his other passion, horses.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Armstrong, Iowa and the Estherville, Iowa Saddle Club.

Richard is survived by his children, Darla Meyer of Armstrong; Colleen (Adam) Denker of Lone Rock; Jeffrey (Princess) Meyer of Sioux Falls; seven grandchildren, Cole, Matthew, Austin, Allison, Miles, Carly and McKenzie Denker; and siblings, Lola Sousa; Maxine Antoine; Joanita (Bob) Weber; Geraldine (Phil) Elsbecker; Leroy (Carol) Meyer and Phillip (Dixie) Meyer and many nieces and nephews.

He has been preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Kathleen and siblings MaryAnn Mercier and Florence Elsbecker.

The funeral service was held Friday, October 16, 2020 at the Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Armstrong with burial at Armstrong Grove Cemetery.
