Funeral services for Clifford Peton of Estherville were held on Monday, November 26, 2007, a 10:30 a.m. at Estherville Lutheran Church in Estherville, Iowa. Pastor Susan Stone officiated the services and Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Casket bearers were Nathaniel Peton, Matthew Peton, Rich Peton, John Peton, Robert Peton and David Peton.

Clifford Leon Peton, the son of Paul and Sophia (Bondhus) Peton, was born October 1, 1925, in Estherville, Iowa. He passed away Tuesday, November 20, 2007, at Avera Holy Family Health in Estherville at the age of 82.

He received his education in the rural schools of Emmet County. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. On June 12, 1951, Clifford was united in marriage to Beverly Clark in Jackson, Minnesota. The couple lived for two years in Fayetteville, North Carolina, while Clifford was stationed at Ft. Bragg. After his honorable discharge from military service, the couple moved to the Graettinger area where they made their home until 1962, when the family moved to Estherville. Beverly died December 26, 1997. On December 12, 2003, Clifford was united in marriage to Annabelle (Sytsma) Halsrud. The couple made their home in Estherville.

He was a member of Estherville Lutheran Church and American Legion Post 91, both of Estherville.

Grateful for having shared Clifford’s life are his wife, Annabelle of Estherville; son, James Clark Peton and his wife, Debbie of Gilbert, Arizona; step-children, Beverly Lind and her husband, Raymond of Swea City, Iowa; Melvin Halsrud and his wife, Florence of Estherville; Clyde Halsrud and his wife, Antonelle of Maryland; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; Brothers: Paul Peton, Jr. and his wife, Lavon of Graettinger; Richard Peton and his wife, Joyce of Estherville; sister Miriam Peton of Graettinger and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding Clifford in death were his first wife; his parents; sisters, Elaine Dalen and Marilyn Peton; and brothers, Euclair and Donald Peton.

Military Graveside Rites by VFW Post 3388 & American Legion Post 91.

Interment was at East Side Cemetery in Estherville, Iowa. (Graettinger Times, Graettinger, IA, November 28, 2007)
