Quincy Daily Herald in 1913 reported on an event that supposedly happened in Dubuque in the years after the Civil War. Sergeant O'Day was in a card game and boasted of assisting in the mob hanging the bushwhacker Tom Rose (late May 31/June 1, 1865 in Quincy). Another gambler took issue with this and shot O'Day at the table. I am curious to know if local papers carried anything about this. The article in the Quincy paper states only "several years later" referring to time after the Civil War and noted that it was unknown who had shot O'Day.
