Grace Maiers (1920-2019)

Grace Agatha (Heying) Maiers, 99, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, March 21, 2019, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester. She was born on January 1, 1920, in New Vienna, the daughter of Peter and Mary (Loeffelholz) Heying. Grace was raised in New Vienna and graduated from St. Boniface Catholic High School.

On November 7, 1939, Grace was united in marriage to Ralph Maiers at St. Boniface Catholic Church in New Vienna. Together they raised two children while farming in the Strawberry Point and Edgewood area. In 1961, the couple moved to Manchester.

Grace was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Manchester, the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, and St. Gerards Study Club. She enjoyed playing cards, gardening, especially tending her flowers, and simply being outside. She and Ralph liked to dance and travel. Grace loved spending time with her family.

Survivors include her daughter, Marilyn Harder of Salinas, CA; a daughter-in-law, Sharon Maiers of Manchester; five grandchildren, Chris (Kevin) Taylor of Asheville, NC, Sherri (Shorty) Knoche of Dundee, Bob Maiers of HI, Kim Huber of Kennesaw, GA, and Mary (Dick) Seehase of Guttenberg; eight great-grandchildren, Zach Taylor, Karlee Hill, Allison Hemann, Chase Forkenbrock, Ryan Maiers, Abby Maiers, Megan Huber, and Nicole Kluesner; 10 great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Eldora Pins, Julie Ungs, and Pat Elliott; brother-in-law, Merl (Vern) Maiers; and many nieces and nephews.

Grace was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph in 2007; a son, Robert in 2011; her parents; her siblings, Kathrine Postler, Anna Mae Heying, Germaine O'Mara, Jeanette Lynch, Dorothy O'Brien, Floyd Heying, James Heying, and two sisters who died in infancy; brothers-in-law, Jerome Maiers, John Maiers, and Gerald Maiers; and sister-in-law, Verna Mae Lucas.

Mass of Resurrection:11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 25, 2019, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Manchester, with Reverend Gabriel Anderson officiating.

Visitation:9:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. on Monday, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Manchester, where the rosary will be recited by the Catholic Daughters of the Americas at 10:30 a.m.

Interment:St. Mary Catholic Cemetery - Manchester, Iowa
