EAST DUBUQUE, Ill. - Services for Earl F. "Shep" Scheppele, 90, 99 Kroll St., East Dubuque, will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at DeWatcher-Haudenshield Funeral Home, 2170 Central Ave.

Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Scheppele worked as an electrician in Dubuque for over 50 years at Scheppele Electric, General Dry Battery Co., Blackhawk Industry, and retired from Celotex Co.

He was born on April 12, 1905, in Dubuque, son of Albert E. and Emma (Hedrick) Scheppele. He died at 1:05 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, 1996, at Manor Care Nursing Center, Dubuque.

He married Edna Brother on Dec. 9, 1926, at Faith Evangelical Church; she died Oct. 14, 1991.

He was an accomplished trumpet and cornet player and was in the Musicians Union for 75 years. He organized "Shep's" band and they played at weddings and dances in the Dubuqueland area. He also played during the silent movies in Dubuque theaters during the Vaudeville era.

He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 704, Fraternal Order of Eagles and the East Dubuque Drum and Bugle Corps. He had been a member of the Dubuque Community Band since 1918, and also a member of the Machinist Local 1250A, Woodworkers Local 410, the Dubuque Electric League, which he helped organize and the Dubuque Flying Club, which he also helped organize in 1927.

Surviving are six daughters, Edith Schadey, of East Dubuque, Mrs. Charles (Myo) Boyer, of Dubuque, Mrs. Arnold (Marilyn) Chambers Fox and Mrs. LaVerne (Joyce) Lolwing, both of Potosi, Mrs. Donald (Barbara) Becker, of Dubuque, and Mrs. Lynden (Jeanne) Marshall, of Sherrill, Iowa; 32 grandchildren and 46 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Olin (Virginia) Thompson, of Moberly, Mo.

He also was preceded in death by a son, Paul Earl Scheppele, in May 1962; and a granddaughter, Carmen Boyer, in May 1974.
