Death of Mrs. McQuillen

Mrs. McQuillen, mother of the well-known McQuillen Brothers of Richland Township, Jones County, died at the family residence on Sunday night, Sept. 29. She was among the early settlors of Jones County and was a lady highly respected by her neighbors and friends.

Her maiden name was Margaret Lang and she was born Dundal, County of Louth, Ireland, in 1807, and at her death she was 82 years old. In 1829 she came to the United States and located at Albany, N, Y., and was married in that city to John McQuillen. In 1846, with company of her husband they came to Iowa and temporarily resided at Sherril's Mount, Dubuque County, but later moved to Richland Township, Jones County where they purchased a homestead of Perry DeLong and upon which she resided up until the time of her death. Four sons survive her: George McQuillen of Temple Hill, John and R. H. McQuillen of Butterfield, and Thomas H. McQuillen of Cascade. The funeral took place at St. Martin's Church, Cascade, the Rev L. Roche pastor, the Rev. J. Kelly of Garry Owen and Rev. E. O'Farrell of Temple Hill officiating. The funeral was largely attended.
