Lester J. Yutzy, 93, of Dubuque, passed away Monday, July 16, 2018, at home.

Services will be at 12:30 p.m. Friday, July 20, 2018, at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home, 3860 Asbury Rd., where friends may greet the family from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service. Pastor Bill Rector will officiate. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded by the American Legion Post #6.

Lester was born on December 11, 1924 in Reno County, KS, the son of John and Susan (Mast) Yutzy. Lester enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942 where he served in the Burma China India Campaign with the 209th Combat Engineers. He was a member of the battalion who became members of Merrill's Marauders for a final battle to eliminate the occupied territory of the enemy in Burma. He received the Purple Heart and other citations. He was a lifetime member of the DAV and American Legion.

He married Eileen Anderson on April 28, 1958. Lester was employed in service and management at several supper clubs and at Sears and Montgomery Ward until his retirement.

Lester volunteered as a driver for the Dubuque Cancer Society. He was a devoted blood donor, and also served on some organizations at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Dubuque.

He enjoyed boating, snowmobiling, motorcycling, gardening, and traveling. He was an avid fan of the Cubs, White Sox, and Chicago Bears. Lester loved being with his children and grandchildren.

Lester is survived by his wife, Eileen; his children, John (Linda) Yutzy of Iowa City, Kathleen (Jim) Oldham of Chapin, SC, Robin Buchanan of Overland Park, KS, and Donna (Bill) Rector of Flower Mound,TX; his grandchildren, Emma, Olivia, and Nicholas Yutzy, and Katie, Kirby, and Charlie Rector; his sister-in-law, Dorothy Yutzy of Sugar Creek, OH; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Roman and Eli; and his sisters-in-law, Grace and Frances.

The family requests no flowers. Memorials may be given to the Salvation Army or Hospice of Dubuque.

Lester's family would like to thank Hospice of Dubuque, especially Cindy, and the Skilled Nursing staff at Mercy Medical Center.
