SISTER JANAAN (CASSIAN) HICKIE, OSF, of Clare House, Dubuque, Iowa, was called home peacefully at 12:00 p.m., on June 11, 2018, at Clare House. To honor Sister Janaan Hickie's life, a Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, June 15, 2018, at 1:00 p.m., in the St. Francis Chapel. To honor Sister Janaan Hickie's life, family and friends may visit from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., on Thursday, June 14, 2018, in the St. Francis Chapel, where a Funeral Vigil Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
Sister Hickie was born on March 9, 1931, in Graf, IA, daughter of Leo and Marie (Schmitt) Hickie.
She first entered the Sisters of St. Francis on August 25, 1953, and made her final profession of vows August 12, 1959. Sister received her high school education at Immaculate Conception Academy, Dubuque, IA. She went on to minister in Iowa as a homemaker in Waterloo, Bode, Cascade, Ashton, and Ossian. In Dubuque, she continued her ministry at Mount St. Francis, Operation New View, the Head Start Program, and also created an outreach program known as "Junkin for Jesus."
Those left to cherish Sister Hickie's life include
her sisters,
Frances (Fran) Adams,
Mary Jo Herzog,
Leanne Horsfall
and Karen (Lynn) Kurt;
her numerous nieces and nephews;
and her Franciscan sisters, with whom she shared over 63 years of her life.
Sister Hickie was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Leo "Bud" (Sue) Hickie, Jr.; and her brothers-in-law, William Herzog and Bernard "Bernie" Horsfall.

Memorials may be given to the Sisters of St. Francis, Dubuque, IA.
