Stephen J. Walz, 55, of Holy Cross, Iowa, passed away Friday, December 22, 2017 in Arlington, Iowa.

Friends and relatives of Stephen may call from 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at the Reiff Funeral Home in Farley, Iowa, where services for Stephen will be held at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. Noah Diehm officiating.

He was born June 17, 1962 in Manchester, Iowa, son of Eldon and Clementine (Mihm) Walz. He is a graduate of Starmont High School in Arlington, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Terri Schmitt on April 19, 1985 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Richardsville, Iowa. He was employed at Exide Technologies Inc. in Manchester, Iowa. He worked at Exide since his graduation from high school, and currently held the position of Materials and Logistics Manager.

Stephen enjoyed volleyball and softball. He was a member of the Holy Cross Soft Ball Team. Steve proudly served as a volleyball official for the Iowa State Girls High School Athletic Association, having been bestowed the honor of officiating at this year's state tournament; both men and women at the college level; and was recently certified as a USA Junior National official.

He was a member of the Holy Cross Parish.

He is survived by his wife, Terri Walz of Holy Cross, IA; his children, Logan Walz (friend, Kaylee) of Manchester, IA and Holly (Scot) Sperfslage of Iowa City, IA; his mother, Clementine Walz of Strawberry Point, IA; five siblings, Dave Walz (Friend Laurie) of Minocqua, WI, Susan (Ken) Kinyon of Port Orchard, WA, Doug Walz of Hartford, IA, Tina (Mike) Pech of Winthrop, IA, and Jeff (Tracy) Walz of Maple Grove, MN; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Dave (Cheryl) Schmitt of North Liberty, IA, Susan Stribling (Friend Roger) of St. John’s FL, Beth (Frank) Dardis of Peosta, IA, one god son, Brendan Dardis and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his father, Eldon Walz on December 27, 2014, one sister, Annette Walz, father and mother-in-law, Herb and LaVonne Schmitt.

In lieu of flowers a Stephen J. Walz memorial fund has been established.
