David C. Juergens 1948-2017

David C. "Moke" Juergens 68 of Dubuque and Fort Myers, FL. passed away on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 after a 5 ½ year long and hard battle with Colorectal cancer, with great dignity and strength. He died at home surrounded by friends and family.

Family will greet friends from 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm, Friday, October 13, 2017 at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home and Cremation Service 3860 Asbury Rd. with a 7:00 pm Celebration of Life and Remembrance Service.

David was born November 9, 1948, in Dubuque, the son of Joseph J. and Mary C. (Swift) Juergens. He graduated from Dubuque Senior High School in 1967.

David spent 34 years in the meat industry, beginning his career at Dubuque Packing Co., moving on to FDL Foods, and later retiring from Farmland Foods in 2000. He married Lynne Placke and together they had two beautiful daughters, Gina and Jana. He later married Julie Hoffmann.

David loved to have fun, had a great love for life, family and friends. He treasured weekends spent with his daughters and other family at Nita-Ho Valley.

David played competitive fast pitch softball for a number of teams, winning numerous state tournaments and competing a number of times in the World Fast Pitch Tournaments. He was inducted into the Kiwanis Hall of Fame and Dubuque Fast Pitch Hall of Fame.

David loved to fish, whether making a trip to Canada with his brothers and friends, throwing a rod into the Mississippi, or a deep sea fishing trip in Florida.

David gained golf bragging privileges when he played with Tiger Woods in the 1996 Quad City Classic Pro Am. He had a great passion for golf, which allowed him the opportunity to form so many great friendships. Many loved to have a game with "Moke".

David was a lifelong Yankee fan where he spent countless hours cheering them on watching on TV or in person at Yankee Stadium. He also was a true and avid Iowa Hawkeye Fan.

Survivors include his wife, Julie; a daughter, Gina (Jeff) Juergens of Omaha, NE; his beloved granddaughter, Amanda Hohensee; siblings, Sue (Don) Vandermillen of Bonita Springs, FL; Steve (Sue) Juergens and Tom (Carla) Juergens of Dubuque; father in-law, Emil Hoffmann; brothers in-law, David (Sue) Hoffmann of Louisville, KY, Steve (Diann) Hoffmann of Hilo, HI, and Scott Hoffmann of Farmington, NM.

David was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Jana Juergens; a brother, William O. Juergens; and his mother in-law, Betty Hoffmann.

The family would like to thank Dubuque Oncology, Florida Cancer Center and Hope Hospice. These medical professionals, along with so many supportive family members and friends, helped David and his family walk through his journey.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in David's memor
