Harold H. Straub

Harold H. Straub, 89, of Dubuque, passed away on Sunday, December 7, 2014, at Stonehill Care Center.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, Dec. 12, at Holy Spirit Parish, Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m.- 12:00 p.m., Friday at the Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 Kennedy Road.

Harold was born on February 5, 1925, in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Herman S. and Lena K. (Jaeger) Straub.

He graduated from Loras Academy in 1943.

He married Kathryn Schroeder-Kehoe on April 22, 1956, in Davenport, Iowa.

Harold worked at his family's business, Curtis-Straub Plumbing and Heating on 1072 Locust St. his entire life. It was established in 1920 by Roy Curtis and Herman Straub. Harold was a dedicated worker and business owner and ran the business until he was 86 years old.

He took pride in his automobiles and enjoyed going on car rides. He loved sports and was an avid Cubs and Packers fan.

Harold was a member of the Elks Club and the 330 Shooting Society.

Surviving is his sister, Darlene (Straub) Ertl, of Dyersville; nieces and nephews, Karolyn (Steve) Olberding, of Dyersville, Karl (Pam) Ertl, of Estes Park, Colo., David (Becky) Ertl, of Cascade, Krisanne (Fiance Kelly Kluesner) Ertl, of Dyersville, and Daniel (friend Jan) Ertl, of Estes Park, Colo.; great-nieces and nephews, Dawn (Brian) Chetto, Jeremy (Fiance Carla) Olberding, Steven (Friend Melba) Ertl, Matthew (Nicolle) Ertl, Elizabeth (Friend Brian) Ertl, Jarrett Ertl, Samuel Ertl, Ryan (Friend Sherill) Funke, Alex Funke and Jade Ertl.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn; parents, special friend, Kay Hoppmann; brother, Karl; brother-in-law, Robert J. Ertl; and great-niece, Stefanie Olberding.
