Wedlock Captures a Confirmed
Dubuque Bachelor

And so this time Gen. Jesse M. Harrison, of this city, is married, after so many years of single blessedness that he was supposed to be invulnerable to Cupid’s shaft, and a Davenport lady is the one who won his heart and led him from the dry and withered pastures of bachelordom to the green fields and perennial joy of wedded bliss. He arrived in this city last evening, and was received by a large number of friends at the depot. Only the fact that it was Saturday night, and to properly celebrate the event would reach over in the Sabbath, prevented a visit from the General’s bachelor’s friends, who proposed to give him a last farewell as a bachelor with fitting ceremonies. Long life to Gen. Jessie Harrison and his bonnie bride, who is welcomed in our midst. The Davenport Gazette notices the marriage as follows:

There was a pleasant wedding ceremony at the residence of Capt. W. L. Clarke, in Buffalo, yesterday afternoon at half past 11 o’clock, the Captain’s daughter, Miss Emma L., and Gen. Jesse M. Harrison, of Dubuque, being the parties principal. Rev. Dr. Barris officiated. The attendants were Mr. L. L. Clarke, brother of the bride, and Miss Mary Everett, niece of the bride groom. Besides the relatives of the bride, numerous friends from Davenport and Rock Island witnessed the ceremony, and after the marriage there was a delightful social reunion-and a feast than which none more superb and pleasurable can be imagined. The array of costly and beautiful presents attested the esteem which the bride is regarded by those who know her well.

So Dubuque loses one of their well-known and most gallant bachelors; no more will society class Gen. Harrison with the incorrigibles. He will return a husband, and his home will be graced by a lady whose refinements and graces will be appreciated in the circles in which she will move, in the city of her new abode.

Mr. and Mrs. Harrison are at the Burtis House. They will probably visit some of the General’s old friends in Kentucky before returning to their home in Dubuque.
