IN THE WRONG PLACE

A Slight Domestic “On Pleasantness” in
The Family of Patrick Kennedy

Yesterday forenoon Justice Cantillon’s office was filled to overflowing with a crowd of scandal lovers, intent on absorbing the juicy developments of a crim con case, the parties to the suit being, Mr. Patrick Kennedy, his wife, Catherine, and Mr. John Ryan. The circumstances, plainly told, are as follows: Kennedy is a laboring man, residing on the corner of First and Locust Streets, and has been employed for some time past on the steamer Mollie Mohler. Last Friday night he worked on the boat until 10:30 o’clock, and upon going home, much to his surprise, found his own door locked against him. He was just at the point of stepping down the steps, with a view of investigating matters further, when he distinctly heard his little girl inside say, “John Ryan get up; here is daddy,” this was enough for Patrick. He placed his shoulder against the door, gave a mighty surge and burst it from its hinges, and then rushing into the bedroom found his unfaithful wife Catherine, and John Ryan snugly ensconced together. Kennedy made a grab at Ryan, but the latter dodged. He then sought to inflict personal chastisement upon the female, but Ryan came to the rescue, and the tweo men clinched. Police office, Michael Halpine, hearing the row rushed over, and soon succeeded in separating the parties, when Ryan at once struck out for other and safer quarters. Yesterday the wife and guilty paramour were brought up on a charge of adultery, and the evidence being conclusive both were committed to the county jail in default of $500 bail. While Justice was making out mittimus Ryan sought to escape from the Marshal. He got out of the office, ran down Seventh Street, then up an alley, but in attempting to scale a fence his foot caught and the Marshal pounced upon him before he could gain his equilibrium. Both the offending parties are securely lodged in jail.

Kennedy was married to his present wife ten years ago at Syracuse, N. Y., her name being Catherine Quinn. Her accomplice in crime will be recognized as an old offender, while the woman herself is reported by all her to be a hard case.
