Cutting Affray On a Steamboat

There was a serious stabbing affray on the steamboat Penwright, yesterday morning, shortly after the boat left Bellevue. Mate Heffer at this point had occasion to order a roustabout, named John McMahon, to perform some duty, and the man not moving as quickly as the man desired, the mate made some demonstration toward him. McMahon drew his knife, an ordinary pocket knife, and stabbed Heffer in the left side, between the ribs, inflicting a very dangerous wound. McMahon was locked up in one of the room of the boat and when he landed at this wharf he was turned over to the authorities here. Heffer secured surgical attention, being taken to Mr. Welch; boarding house. His wound is considered of so dangerous of a character by the surgeon who attended him, that the examination of McMahon is postponed until the 2d inst. Meanwhile he will be confined in jail.

The captain of the boat informs us that the report in the Telegraph that the mate used a take on the man I not correct.
