A SUDDEN COOLING OFF

Mr. John Agler, leaving near Lattnerville, in this county had a very narrow escape from death on Wednesday. He was on his way to a sale at Lattnerville. He took a nip or two at a saloon on his way, to get off the road. He took a path which led across the mill race, having to cross on boards strung across the “bents” at the head-gates. He lost his balance and fell a distance of six or seven feet to the ice below, and fell through. The hole he made was small, and the water was but three or four feet deep, and he couldn’t get out. In his struggles he got his head under the ice, and but for his great strength, which enabled him to break through the ice, he must have been drowned. His face was much bruised. Despite his condition, he went on to the sale.
